Inclusion
Southend Music Service is committed to making our music education services accessible and adaptable to meet all needs. We have a framework for Music on Sea’s inclusion development (2022–2025) which is currently in the process of being reviewed and updated.
The Greater Essex Music Hub (GEMH) Service Inclusion Strategy
The current Southend on Sea current Inclusion Strategy (2022-2025) relates to 12 principles:
- Inclusion is embedded.
- Cultures, policies and procedures are in place to support inclusion.
- Tutors have appropriate and sufficient skills to deliver musically inclusive practices and appropriate musical and creative development with all children and young people.
- Use a partnership building approach to embrace and engage with a range of new partners to advocate for the positive benefits of musical inclusion.
- Engage in sustainable ways of working with new groups of children.
- The offer for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) has been expanded, building on current good practice.
- Increase and sustain engagement with children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
- Data is used as a driver for inclusion.
- The ensemble programme to further develop inclusion and progression for all children and young people.
- Monitoring and evaluating the quality of inclusion is embedded and influences future strategy.
- A substantial early years music programme targeted at young people in parts of Southend that are socio-economically deprived.
- Workforce diversity to more closely reflect the diverse cultures represented across our City.
